There are 12 women’s prisons in England. There are none in Wales.
This means that Welsh women who are sent to prison have to serve their sentence hundreds of miles away from their family, friends and community.
Across a two-part series, Mai Davies explores the lack of provision for female prisoners in Wales by discovering more about the situation as it exists today.
Speaking with MPs, charities and those who have experienced prison themselves, Mai listens in to honest accounts about life within the criminal justice system before asking is there a better option?
