120 Years Of The RFL

BBC Radio 5 Live

August 2015

On August 29 1895, 22 clubs broke away from the Rugby Football Union to form the Northern Union, the governing body that would become the Rugby Football League.

Now over 120 years on, the sport is stronger than ever.

In this programme BBC Radio 5 live takes a look back at 120 years of the RFL in the build up to the Ladbrokes Challenge Cup Final.

George Riley speaks to RFL historian Tony Collins to discuss the game’s history and we also remember some memorable Challenge Cup finals from legends of the sport.
