BBC Radio 5 Live
5 live is the BBC’s national news and sport radio station, covering breaking stories and major events. Their award winning team deliver 24/7 on-air content as well as a number of chart topping podcasts. The station broadcasts from MediaCityUK, and attracts more than 5,000,000 listeners a week.
The Opportunity
As part of the BBC’s commitment to supporting the independent creative production sector, 5 Live were looking for a production company to produce on-air programmes, podcasts and station sound. They wanted to partner with a team who could deliver creative audio that satisfied their objective of bringing new audiences to 5 Live and BBC Sounds.
Audio Reaction Strategy
Radio
Our team have produced a number of radio programmes and campaigns for 5 Live, including the weekly In Short strand and Young Commentator Of The Year. In 2019 we also started producing the brand new Elis James and John Robins show. When the comedians left Radio X for the BBC, our team were tasked with welcoming them to the network and delivering standout weekly content. The programme was named ‘Funniest Show’ at the 2020 ARIA awards, and continues to be one of the network’s most popular shows.
Podcasts
Alongside Elis and John’s live on-air show, we developed and produced their How Do You Cope podcast. Guests including George Ezra, Simon Thomas and Emily Dean have opened up about how they dealt with challenging moments in their life.
Station Sound
Since 2015 we have supported the 5 Live team with station sound production across their output. We have provided trails and imaging for major campaigns, show launches and memorable news and sport moments.
